I want to start of by saying the past 26 years of watching over so many various pets has been the most incredible adventure I could have ever asked for. The relationships, cuddles, and adorable puppy kisses I will certainly never forget. That is why making the decision to seek out a new adventure in life and to sell A Pets Best Friend was such a HARD decision for me.


With that, I would like you to know I am at ease with my decision to sell A Pets Best Friend to Creature Connections Pet Sitting, one of my most trusted friends in the business. 

Michelle, the owner of Creature Connections, has many of the same attributes, standards, and beliefs that have made my time here so successful and enjoyable.


Michelle graduated with a Veterinary Technician degree from Colby Community College and started her career in that field before having the opportunity to take over Creature Connections Pet Sitting back in 2008.  Ever since that time, I have worked with her and found her as one of the best in the business. This is why she topped my list when I decided to reach out and see if she would consider taking over all the wonderful families I care for so much for.  Michelle has owned Creature Connections for over 13 years and I have very little doubt that if you move over to her services, you will be well taken care of. 

I would like to take this opportunity to let you know that when you schedule with  Creature Connections, the customer service and wonderful pet sitters, will all remain the same. The majority of the current pet sitters who have serviced your pets through A Pets Best Friend over the years are transitioning over to work with Creature Connections and would love to continue to help take care of your furry babies. 

The goal of this transition is to make it seamless for you and your furry children. The name and contact to schedule services may change, but everything else will remain the same (this includes rates and many of your main pet sitters). Michelle’s company does utilize different Pet Sitting Software but is very similar and user friendly as to what we use at A Pet’s Best Friend.

Why use A Pet's Best Friend pet sitting service instead of boarding my pet?

  • Pets are happier & healthier in their own home environment.

  • Eliminates trauma for your pet of being left in an unfamiliar place.

  • Eliminates the hassles of transporting your pet to and from a kennel.

  • There is no exposure to other animals, sickness or parasites.

  • Relatives, friends or neighbors will not be inconvenienced by your pet and the additional responsibilities.

  • Gives you peace of mind, knowing that a professional is caring for  your pet,  and your house will be looked after while you're away.

Will I be able to meet the pet sitter who is assigned to take care of my pets?

The initial consultation is with the business owner, Melissa Kauffman. However, a free 15 minute visit is offered for you to meet the actual pet sitter once the initial consultation is completed. Also, feel free to view the individual profiles of each pet sitter on the "STAFF" tab.

What safety measures do the pet sitters take while on dog walks to keep my pets safe?

Pet sitters avoid all other dogs as well as other animals such as bunnies, squirrels, and cats. If a sitter sees a dog coming toward them, they will change their route, changing direction or crossing to the other side of the street. The sitter will also watch where your dog's mouth is to make sure no discarded items or food is picked up and look at the ground around them to make sure the dog does not walk over any broken glass or other hazards.  For the pet sitter to have a good grasp of the leash by being able to put hands through the handle and around their wrist,  retractable leashes are not recommended. Another option we use is a dog walking belt with the leash attached to the belt for your dog's safety.


I only have cats. They can go a few days without attention. Can I just schedule visits for every other day?

A Pet's Best Friend is a proud member of Pet Sitters International. PSI has a list of standards of excellence it expects its members to follow and expects its members to visit pets at least once every 24 hours to ensure that the pets are physically well and are not in need of medical attention. In addition to the recommendation of PSI, A Pet's Best Friend has encountered various situations over the course of 26 years in which had we not been there within 24 hours, the results of each issue that arose (whether a medical issue with the pet or an issue with the house) would have been far more serious. We want to be able to know not too much time goes in between visits so we may handle any emergencies in a timely manner.

Are your sitters able to give insulin injections?

Yes, some of our sitters do know how to give injections. However, we currently do not take on new clients with pets that require insulin injections due to both the strict timing needed for injections as well as limited staff with the ability to give injections. 


How is payment handled?

You may mail a check to A Pet's Best Friend at 13057 Logan Street, Thornton, CO. 80241 or make an online payment through a link on an invoice which will be emailed to you after services have been completed. Please do not leave payment at your home for the pet sitter to pick up. Payments are due upon completion of the service order. (Holiday and overnight stays require a prepayment due to the high demand of those services.)

May I pay for the pet sitting service before I am invoiced?

Before services begin, you will receive an email with an attached quote which will show the total amount for services.  You will be invoiced AFTER services have been completed. However, if you prefer to pre-pay, after noting the amount of your quote, log in to your account to your Account Summary page. Because you have not been invoiced and technically payment is not due until services have been completed, it will read "You have nothing to pay" shown below with the purple arrow. However, you may pay in advance by clicking on "Make a payment" shown below with the red arrow. If you wish to include a tip, add it in with the total here at this time.


Should gratuity be left for pet sitters?

Tipping is customary in the pet care industry and the sitters graciously accept tips as a show of appreciation for their dedication and hard work. If you have the same sitter for all of your visits, a cash tip may be left at your house for the sitter to pick up, but make sure it is clearly marked as an intended tip. Otherwise, the sitter will not take it. If you would like to provide gratuity online to your pet sitter, include it in your payment to A Pet's Best Friend and the gratuity will be paid to the sitters accordingly. Instructions for this will be included in your invoice.


What happens if I return from my trip early?

You may simply log in to your account and click on "Schedule" from your account summary page. Click on the pet sits listed on the calendar that you no longer need and click on the grey "cancel" button. The system will ask for confirmation, complete the cancellation, and A Pet's Best Friend™ will receive a notification. If it is less than 48 hours or a same day cancellation, you will need to call A Pet's Friend™. If you reach us soon enough, we can cancel any unnecessary pet sits and pay you back the difference owed. However, if you do not contact us within 24 hours before your next scheduled pet sit, there will be a $10 fee.


Overnight stays and holiday time frame pet sits require a prepayment. If cancelled, a 50% cancellation fee is applied, the other half is refunded or kept as a credit in your account for future services.

How early in advance do I need to schedule pet sits?

We have no required advance notice. As soon as you make your travel plans, please call or email us. However, if you call the day before and we have an opening, we'll be happy to take care of your pets! For holiday pet sits it is wise to call at least 2 months in advance.

What if the sitter has a personal emergency while taking care of my pets?

A Pet's Best Friend™ has many other pet sitters in addition to the business owner. So, if one pet sitter cannot attend to your pets, another pet sitter will be sent to care for them. Your pets will never be left uncared for.
